blog 6- photo

These are the photos I took for the front cover of my magazine but decided not to use.

This is the image I decided to use for my front cover. I like this image more than the others it demonstrates him djing clearly. It also shows more clearly than the others that he is enjoying the music. You can tell this by his body language and facial expression. This photo shows the energy he is putting in which is appropriate for the target audience. The image has to be striking so it draws peoples attention and this photo has far more impact than the other photos. The amount of energy a Dj is putting into a set is very important to the target audience which is why it is so important to use a photo that presents this. This is the photo which would appeal most to the demographic because it shows the things they are looking for in a Dj. The audience get a buzz from a Dj so to imitate this it is crucial that the Dj is shown to be appealing to the audience in the same way as if they were performing live. The photo is a low angle shot so it makes the Dj look bigger than normal. This has certain effects like giving the photo more impact and making it more eye catching. It also emphasises the importance of the Dj in the shot which can be linked to the importance of the Dj in the magazine. These things occur because the photo gives the Dj more presence.

These are the photos i took for the double page spread but decided not to use. The general problem with these photographs are the facial expressions. They are unsuitable either because they don't give out the right message or they were taken badly so look wrong.

The photo below is one of the photos i have decided to use for my double page spread. I have
chosen to use this photo because it shows the interviewee as a jolly person and gives a good represntation of his personality. I think it is important for a photo to be a good representation of the interviewee because people read the interview to find out about the person. Another reason I think this photo is a good one is because it shows he is relaxed. I think people want to know that the interviewer is relaxed because they want to know what the person is like in general and they are more likely to act how they would normally act if they are relaxed.

This is another one of the photos i have decided to use. This is effective again because it is a good representationof his personality. It is a comical photo because of his gestures and facial expression. This demonstrates that he has a good sense of humour and that he does not take himself completely seriously. These are qualities that most people would like and perhaps be able to relate with which makes it more appealing to the demographic. People are attracted by things they can relate with and by demonstrating his attitudes through the photos it makes it easier for people to relate with.

This photo is different to the others as he is relaxing and playing music. This shows him in a natural setting for his everyday life. This photo helps give an insight into how he spends some of his time. The scene created is one of a chilled atmosphere. This is created through the hat, bongo and beanbag. This scene implies things about his attitudes which people will be able to associate with. The target audience I am aiming at are easy going people so will appreciate the atmosphere created in this picture. The effect of having the photo shot in a natural environment for him is that it makes the photo seem more real and down to earth which are attitudes commonly associated with my target audience.

These photos are used to create a visual description of the interviewee and combine with the interview to give an impression of what the person is like. This is why it is important for the photos to be representative of the person aswell as attracting the target audience. The themes of the interview need to be mirrored by the photos. I think part of the reason why the photos are effective is because they are different to most pictures aimed at this target audience. The stereotypical picture for a dnb or dubstep artist features the artist looking very serious. These photos contradict the stereotype which make it stand out and create a different scene in the photos. By having less serious photos I think it makes it easier for the audience to associate and relate with the photos. The photos are all taken in simplistic settings which relate to the themes of the magazine as it is trying to avoid all the complicated areas of the artists lives and just focuses on the music. I think it is also important for the photos to fit in with the themes of the magazine and not just the article because the audience are attracted by the style of the magazine and all elements should be designed to fit with this style.
