blog 2- Target Audience
Establishing your target audience is very important so that you can produce your magazine in an appropriate style to attract your target audience. The genre of music magazine i have chosen is drum and bass and dubstep. Therefore this magazine has to attract people who listen to drum and bass and dubstep. I think the majority of people who listen to drum and bass and dubstep are teenagers. This is why I will be aiming my magazine at a teenage audience. The demographic for my target audience is people generally from the age of 14 to 20 about 80% within this age group, 70% male readers and mostly white readers. What is possibly a more useful way of categorizing target consumers is with psychographic data. Drum and bass is a loud and fast type of music so this will relate to the personality of the people who listen to it. Dubstep shares many of the characteristics of drum and bass so the audiences will be similar. I think the sort of people to read my magazine will have a busy and packed lifestyle. I think they will usually be energetic and outgoing. Alot like the music itself I think readers will be loud and will draw your attention: this could link to the type of clothing they wear eg eye catching clothes. People who will read this magazine will constantly be trying to find new music and will often be competitvie with trying to find the best tunes. Most readers will not only be interested in finding new music but also interested in creating their own. A typical night out for a reader of this magazine would be at a drum and bass or dubstep rave. Music is a huge part of their lives and they will usually have a large and varying music collection. A large proprtion will have their own decks and an interest in mixing. The majority of readers will download music for free even if it is illegal. Their collection of music will either be on vinyl or mp3 formats. I think people that read this magazine will be in socio-economic groups c and below usually but i think this scale is inaccurate in predicting type of people who read this magazine as this has little affect on types of music listened to.
